Word to the Motha Preivew

I just finished this piece was really excited to work on it. When I spoke to DJ ITruth a couple of weeks back he told me he just finished a recent podcast and wanted to call it "Learn English". I usually like to sit and build with him on the inspiration for his episodes. He was telling me he got the idea from those schools that teach english around the city. We've all seen them, a group of eclectic non english speaking kids taking a cigarette break in front of the building. Then you see those ads of the perfect "learn to speak english" candidate who has just enough facial features to relate to several different nationalities and or ethnicities.

Once he passed me the podcast I was open. It was so on the money. The wheels began turning and it all came to me while helping a brethren of mine move. Of course it helped that he has a large vinyl collection that I was able to leave through during a break. All of these record covers were all hand painted. Amazing shit really, like the time dedicated to those covers makes the record even more impressionable. Unlike nowadays were we are satisfied (not) with a picture of the artist and that's that (real clever). Then I took it to some Tony Allen and Fela Kuti album covers which are all just sick and have a strong message to match the content.

Here is a video teaser showing how the art was created. It also comes with a nice chunky beat provided by DJ ITruth as well. We will post the podcast for you to download on 4/21/10 (later on this week).

Sofrito: For mi Gente

Peace party people, Our brother in arms, DJ ITruth truly stays busy. He's always creating good vibes for us to live by. He takes the time to school us with some classic tunes as well as I like to say, "providing the soundtrack to our life". This is one of my favorite mix cd's he made so I just wanted to share it with you all. It contains some Marco Antonio Muniz, Bobby Cruz, Xavier Cugat, and Chuco Avellanet just to name a few. Download it and give your ears (and soul) a treat.

Penny For Your Thoughts

I just finished a recent work. I've truly been enjoying this particular project just because it allowed me to dive into some of my childhood fears. I remember reading this book and how much it scared the crap out of me. For me the book was far better than the movie just because I thnk your mind can run wild with imagination. Please take a look and I hope you enjoy the end product as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Cooking in Hells Kitchen, Word To The Motha, Inside the Studio

These are all the pics from the Session at ITruth's studio. It was a breath of fresh air for us. I knew that this experience would give us the boost we all needed. The location alone brought back memories of all those times we used to hang out there for New Year's Eve and of course the good old times of the Duece (42 St) before it turned into disney land. There's a great little sangria spot on his block as well as this seedy (can appear to be) bar that is definitely a locals bar. So after the 3 floor walk up and cracking jokes, Fuse and Blust walked in and automatically loved ITruth's vinyl collection.

A pic of his 12" and 45 collection
Fuse showing us one of his favorite album covers.

So what the pic is blurred, too much energy in the room (not because of the beers).
from vinyl to serato
Bluster chopping it up.
Took me back with this one. This was an old illustration pen & ink I did for Rappages Magazine back in the 90's.
Bode broad and Cheech Wizard on the walls.
These are some of the trinkets he has there. Old Sticker Courtesy of Dontay TC5, PNB stencil (So ahead of the times, PNB Helped lay the blueprints for street fashion today) and a wonderful cluster of stickers on his frig.
While we had good tunes going we all got into our sketch session
Blust watching Fuse do his thing
The start of the 2 page Bluster so effortlessly does
Near completion. Now I just need to get a pic of that 2 pager from ITruth.

DJ I Truth - Word To The Motha Vol.1

Allow me to introduce yall to my brother DJ ITruth. He's been DJing for quite some time and has a vast knowledge of all different types of music from Hip Hop to Salsa to House. On our Word To Ya Motha series of mixes you will hear all of ITruth's different musical influences. He can currently be seen at a hot party in NYC between rocking the turntables and killing the dance floor. ITruth used to be a dancer for Brand Nubian in the SOS crew (SOS are ya wit me?).

So I say to you all, enjoy and leave a comment with what you think of the mix.
