Humpday Humor

Peace Family!
This is for my people that can use a couple laughs to get over the hump.

I got this first one from my brother Alyasha aka Stack-Aly's blog. Being that I've been going to school for computer repair, this one really tickled my funny bone...

This one could be offensive, but the dude should of left it alone when the old man went to the front of the bus. Then he had the nerve to ask for an "ambulamps" (ambulance)!! WTF!!

This was my favorite SuperBOWL 2010 commercial...

HAND'S OFF!!

This compilation is just retarted...

After watching the "racist" commercial posted by Dashuan I came across this one. Brace yourself it's not what it looks like....

Hope this helped you over the hump of the week, 2 days left...till TGIF.
Peace!!

My First Furniture Purchase

Today I finally made a decision and copped a dresser for my bedroom. Since moving into my new apartment I have been in need of a spot for my pounds of t-shirts and other summer gear. Today in between doing laundry, Shino and I took a trip to a local furniture store. After walking around for about 10 minutes we decided on on dresser that was a decent height and cost less than 300 bucks. I didn't realize it until we were leaving and Shino asked me "have you ever purchased furniture before?" It then hit me that for 30 years I've been getting by on hand me downs!

Since I left my mothers home years ago I first took over an apartment that was my father's first. I moved in furniture that was my aunts before me. The only thing I'd ever purchased for myself was electronics. I am now living in my first apartment that I really had to move things in and buy new furniture.

This is a new beginning, causing me to step out of my comfort zone.
There are times in life where you have to step back and see the whole thing moving like a movie. I feel this is one of those times. I am thankful to all those who helped me to get to this point in my life. I feel as though there is something big on the horizon for me and I am clearing space for it to have a place in my life. I eagerly await it's manifestation and hopefully it will inspire me to write.

Das Boot, Painting Excursions

I have been fiending to go and paint. Been really wanting to pull out a 2 man production but just not prepared enough to make it happen this time around. So for now this is enough just to get my feet wet before diving in. Linked up with Sye early this morning and started on our painting adventure. With what ever scraps I had I was able to pull this together. Got to pull out my "get busy" FC gloves.
The roughs all set up and ready to go. He got all crazy with his kung fu technique.
Sye, fast as lightning bro.
Just trying to stay at a steady pace
Complete and ready to go. I had to laugh cause Sye did white highlights (had him up against the ropes). A rarety for the man. We really wanted to add a character but didn't get a chance to beat the clock.

Country Time..Lemonade was a Popular Drink and it Still Is

Bluster hit me up the other day to tell me about the new issue of Juxtapoz magazine and how it's about this crew called the BarnStormers. I remember he mentioned the story to me about him going down to North Carolina to paint. I was like, dudes are serious about bombing some barns and guess what, they were. It's dope to see heads from the crew get more exposure. It's time to let the next people up to bat. Long over due for some heads but all in due time. If you have a moment go pick up a copy and show some support for the crew.

Write up on Bluster
Write up on West. They also have Doze Green in this issue as well as a few other heads.

Classic Blackout

I had a long talk with my Father in Law about music recently. I put on the DVD of Fania Allstars: "Nuestra Cosa (Our Latin Thing) and it brought back memories for him and opened up a conversation about playing instruments and how now it appears to be non existent. We would then continue to discuss how music and learning to play and instrument as well as reading music helps you to learn coordination. Ten of course it goes into how the youth no longer have as much access to learn how to play instruments. I was blessed with the skill to draw. My brother and sister both can draw but musically my sister surpassed my brother and I by learning how to play the flute and the piano.

A little further into the conversation we discussed how the barrio used to always have people playing music and is filled with so much energy. To play music you have to love what you do. Why is it in places where instruments can't be bought we create new ones instead?? That is creativity at its best.

Bluster One showed me these videos and I lost my mind. Had to use 2 of the songs he has posted on his site. A great way to start off the morning for sure. These tunes can bring the dead to life.

Black Book Sessions

As of recent I've been dealing with certain things that have taken precedence over my painting (going out and painting that is). So in order not to get backed up I decided to let loose a bit into my black book. When I show the crew everyone has funny comments about the pieces. Dontay TC5 thinks I've lost my mind. Sye TC5 tells me he doesn't have time to do black books but he'd rather make time to go out and paint, which he does religiously. Bluster FC is constantly sketching and painting which lets me know that I can always make some time to release some steam and do a page in my black book. I have a few things I'd love to experiment with but haven't figured out how to go about doing so. Back in the days I hardly did color pieces. Now it's just about growth and trying to experiment, which I have yet to do because in my crazy mind I'm trying to work it out. All in due time but for now I present my recent black book session editions.

DJ ITruth (aka Kare One) told me that he just saw this movie called
El Super Beasto by Rob Zombie. So once I saw it I got hooked. Pas Primero piece.

Swing, Swing, Swing & Chop, Chop Chopper

Recently I saw the movie Chopper which is based on the life of Aussie Mark Brandon "Chopper" Reid. It all started over a conversation about the movie "Bronson" and then she mentioned to me to check out Chopper (Choppah w/an Aussie accent). Later on in the week the dvd was given to me and here I am. I was told that he is quite the character and that Eric Bana (Hulk, Black Hawk Down, Munich, Star Trek , Troy etc.) specialized in comedy and that this was one of his first dramatic roleshe played. I was like, Huh??? Basically Chopper has that charisma that will always make you laugh. I can't help but feel certain things are so outrageous that they can't be made up. To make a long story short, go and take some time to see this film. I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Art = Communication

If you haven't heard of this book do yourself a solid and get a copy. This book isn't what this entry is about but it is what introduced me to this artist. I seen his work and was familiar with it but not till about a week ago happened to come across Alphonse Mucha. I am not an art history expert which I can admit so when I come across work like this I feel compelled to share. He gained fame through his commercial art and did not want to be known specifically for this kind of style which was coined art nouveau . He declared that art existed only to communicate a spiritual message, and nothing more.

His poster work is what he is known for

More indepth work of his
Sculptures
I've often thought about trying my hand at making 3 dimensional art. Sculpting I would think takes a different state of mind. One day for sure I'll take a crack at it.

Motion Sickness

This is an old ad but I still love it. Last week I did a post on typography and when I saw this I just thought I would save it so it can have it's own post. I keep coming across some good things but forget to share it with others (sharing is caring). This is something I thought you might enjoy spending a few minutes watching instead of watching the basic music video.

3..2..1..Blust Off

Recently Blust and I have been having some really good talks. Contemplating where society is going and how things are missing nowadays due to a "sterile environment". Regardless when it comes to art we both share the same appreciation towards it. We like to know there's a bit of grit in it to give it some character. Here's a couple of pieces he's done recently, one being for Vibe and the other is a piece for his boy.

We spoke when he told me he met up with Ket to work on this piece. He's like Mgyver when it comes to art. He can use anything and turn it into something. I'm sure there will be a few more touches before it goes to print for Vibe Magazine.
Rainbow Trout, man his head is elsewhere. Love the title for this piece.

Real Life Type

I've been way too busy recently and almost let this one pass me by. Bluster sent this to me a while back and I over looked it by mistake. Thanks Blust, for taking the time out to put me on to this!! So here I am again expressing the love I have for typography as there is always something that people create that allow me to show my appreciation for it. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. Check out the previous ones as well.

Black Book Sessions

Recently I got a bit crazy and ordered a few books online. Every now and then I need that fix for inspiration. I decided I had to get Shacha and Chino's Piece Book Reloaded as well as Part One TDS' book. Between those the icing on the cake was Ket's New York City Black Book Masters. To my surprise I came out in the book (Thanks Ket!!!). The Big Homey Dontay TC5 has the cover on that one. Simple and easy to go through. Some really dope pieces by Fuzz, Noc, Sane(RIP) Smith and Freedom just to name a few. To check it out click here.

I know this isn't graff related but since we are on the topic of books I also just purchased Elmore Leonard's Road Dogs. If you aren't familiar with the author he had a few books that became movies such as Get Shorty, The Big Bounce, Be Cool, Jackie Brown and Out of Sight. I had to start reading again so I started rereading a novel he already wrote called Cuba Libre. Gotta say thanks to Tony Bones for putting me up on this dude way back in the Akademiks days. It's a good read and if you enjoy his movies then I definitely suggest copping a few books to pass the time.

Old School Mondays

This installment of Old School Monday's has a bit of New York titled songs. I figured since Jay-Z's Empire State song is getting so much love why not show just a few videos that help show the long list of NY anthems. Unfortunately there are some many other songs that don't have videos for them.

Old Blues Eyes himself

Kool G Rap, i mean what more needs to be said

Rakim just knew how to take your mind on a journey

through the NYC Streets

This video captured such a great feel for NYC. I mean

just the thought of riding around the deuce (Times Square)
at night with all the lights made it unreal.

When this song dropped on the soundtrack to

the movie Juice it was still a classic.
Major Tri-State appeal!!

Although this isn't a New York song I still decided

to add it just to introduce the song to follow.

Yeppers, This was all during the "East vs West" beef

but it was still a banger. So many NYC Pride songs
were dropped around this time. We've come a long
way people.

Tardy for the Party

I might be old fashioned when it comes to driving and not feeling the need to rely on modern technology to help me navigate through the streets of NY but I learned a lesson this day. I set out for a painting excursion to meet up with Sye, Keo and Fargo. I had a couple of ideas I wanted to execute but some how took a left turn and ended up in Cheboygan, Albuquerque (as Keo would put it). I don't think I've ever been this frustrated with driving. Needless to say by the time I showed up I felt like heads were almost done with their pieces and I had to play catch up. On top of that I wanted to add some characters but of course due to timing I wasn't able to.

Keo working on his piece
Sye Working on his
Fargo getting busy
Had to focus and put time in
Keo close to finishing
Finished product Stab (Fargo), Black (Sye), Plague (Keo), A-Game (Vins)
When I was kicking it with Keo he let me see the Part TDS book that came out. When it comes to Part there aren't that many dudes that have been so consistent and burning on top of it for so many years. If you don't know get a coppy of the book and you can get a small peak into his career. I also recently just got a copy of Deal CIA's book called Graffiti New York which I came out in. It was the Super Mario Bros (aka Super Fame City Bros) that Sye and I did. It's part of the Crews section and a small highlight on FC.

Pencils a Blazing

This weekend I got to hook up with Bluster and Gemma at Dr. Sketchy's. I told them about it recently and they were all excited to go. I showed up a bit late (oh yes the MTA is the BESTEST!!!!....ah no). I really think the MTA takes a break on the weekends just like we all try to but they suceed at it. So anyways, like I said I got there a bit late but it was good non the less and to see how much they enjoyed it made me even happier. I would never want to refer my team to something that I would not enjoy myself. So here are some pics from the event. and I suggest if you have time to go for an event do so. Also here's the link for Dr. Sketchy's. Check out their blog and I've included a introduction video from their site.

The Hyena happy to see I was puntcual

Sorry for the blur but the site will show you much better pics from that event. It ain't easy to draw, sketch, drink beer and talk simultaneously...well actually it is but I need an excuse for a crappy pic.
Bluster's sketch
Gemma's sketch
My Sketch
This was also another sketch prior to all three. This is of the girl in the luchadores mask. When I showed up it was during their "half time" show. It can vary from musical acts to burlesque. The one on the left did a burlesque dance with these feathers like in the 1920's. Really dope!! The one in the ponytails was juggling flaming rods and for her finale put the rod in her mouth to put it out...uhmmm yeah quite the show!!

The Sciene of Numbers

I just recently saw 9 the animated movie. I loved it. Anything dealing with numbers always draws my attention. The science behind the mathematics has become our universal language. The simplicity of mathematics from 1 to 9 plus 0 (guess what the 0 was in the movie?) is always refreshing. Christian and I went to go see it. He's 10 years old and enjoyed it just as much as I did. Each character aside from having a number for a name to represent itself also had shown certain qualities for that "number". For the MG team I know this will be one to collect on DVD for future viewings. Here are some screen grabs from the preview. I'm just saying, "the spark of life alone got me.

A great idea to give the scientist a facebook account.
also to have it being followed on Twitter as well.
