Old School Mondays

This installment of Old School Monday's has a bit of New York titled songs. I figured since Jay-Z's Empire State song is getting so much love why not show just a few videos that help show the long list of NY anthems. Unfortunately there are some many other songs that don't have videos for them.

Old Blues Eyes himself

Kool G Rap, i mean what more needs to be said

Rakim just knew how to take your mind on a journey

through the NYC Streets

This video captured such a great feel for NYC. I mean

just the thought of riding around the deuce (Times Square)
at night with all the lights made it unreal.

When this song dropped on the soundtrack to

the movie Juice it was still a classic.
Major Tri-State appeal!!

Although this isn't a New York song I still decided

to add it just to introduce the song to follow.

Yeppers, This was all during the "East vs West" beef

but it was still a banger. So many NYC Pride songs
were dropped around this time. We've come a long
way people.

Old School Mondays

In case you didn't know Shallah Raekwon aka Raekwon The Chef dropped a new album last week titled Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2. Now Rae dropped two albums since the first Cuban Linx record and they were forgettable at best. However this one is supposed to be a banger and is the substitute record to cop in light of Jay-Z's latest misstep of an album.

Lets go through some old Wu-Tang videos to see what made the Gods so special to begin with.

Live performance of one of my favorite Wu joints. Peep the lyrics about AIDS.

This is my favorite song from the Enter the Wu Tang album.

Seeing this video let me know I was copping OB4CL the first day. Peep the Helly Hansons!

And just so you know the brothers haven't lost it here a new joint from the OB4CL2.

Lets spread a little love as we go into September yall. This is the month to restart and refresh. The babies are heading back to school and the parents are taking a long breath. Take some time today to love someone close to you and make your love known.

Whodini - One Love
One of the all time great groups that don't get enough love in my opinion.

LL Cool J - I Need Love (Live on Apollo)
Another legend showing and proving that he ladies always loved Cool James.

Freddie Jackson - Nice and Slow
On the low I'm kind of a big Freddie Jackson fan. I love dude's work.

Old School Mondays

I feel so out of the loop recently. It's almost as if once you take a step back and unplug yourself from the matrix you can feel the disconnect. Well anyways I decided to dive in a bit deeper with some tunes I know we all know the lyrics to. I just remember hearing some of these on the radio and just being a kid and singing along not really knowing what was being said but keeping the melody alive in my head.

To get this going I decided to start with the Buggles - Video Kills the Radio Star.

This always had that tune that would stick out in your mind. Joe Jackson

Gotta give it up to Blondie.

This I remember always singing along, The Romantics.

Men at Work

Rick Springfield

Hall and Oats, too many classics to choose from so here we go.

To end this why not a closer such as Musical Youth!!

Old School Mondays

Peace Party People, I decided to take it to the west coast to show some love for my Brothers out there holding it down from San Diego to Los Angeles and then to the Bay Area. I got nothing but love when I first started making my way out there in the mid 90's. I got to see what the west was really about before it became polished, packaged and distributed to the masses. Anyways I know we like to keep it NYC all day long but had to show love for the left coast since there were so many groups with their own distinct sounds like Souls of Mischief, The Pharcyde, Hobo Junction, Liquid Crew and Cypress Hill just to name a few. So on that note i leave you the way I greeted you, Peace.

King Tee is a name that isn't mentioned enough when it
comes to greats from the West.

Man, when this came out I remember us runnin around with
our Columbia Bugaboo's and Villanova Starter caps.

This right here is a classic just cause of how all of those
beats were hot to
death and used back to back.

DJ Quik has always been holding it down.

Ahead of his time, Del the funkee!! This whole crew
was putting it down for
LA in such a way that fools
couldn't tell what city they repped.

Peace to one of my brothers out in Love Allah, ERule

I met back in the mid 90's when he was a part of
Pallas
Records through Bilal. Peace to BornAllah,
Jakim, Brown
Seed Gamar, Amaar, AKim and My King. Peace Gods.

Body Count seemed to have gotten shot
down for that Cop
Killer song. They definitely had that
LA Punk sound locked!
Ice T, one of the only dudes to
say he's rockin Slayer to PE
outta his car system.

Old School Mondays

In the name of Mahdi I bring you the latest addition to our Old School Mondays thread. PEACE to our peeps that come by check, comment and refer their associates to knowledge the INTEL gathered by MG Fam. All Praises Due to YOU my brothers and sisters!

In the last couple of years my brother Alyasha has inspired me to broaden my scope in classic American music (50's, 60's & 70's). So I'm dedicating this post to him and his Ol' Earth, Carolyn Owerka (read herstory @ http://www.stack-aly.com/index.php?id=131). She has always been there for me, guiding me in the RIGHT direction! All praises due to you, my MOTHER from another BROTHER.

I've always been a fan of the Queen Aretha Franklin, here are 3 of my favorite performances by Lady SOUL. Thanks for sharing your talent with the world baby GURLLLLL!!

In my youth, one of my favorite shows was BATMAN staring Adam West. I liked him becuase Batman is an Ordinary man that used intelligence, pure muscle and the tools made by using the 2, to accomplish his mission. Plus he showed and proved he's a 5%er, through his relationship with Robin! I always loved the cool music, dancing and the gurlz in this show. This one I got directly from Aly's Blog and it took me right back to Robins' afterscool hangout, where he rolled with a book stash. CRAAAAAAZZY BABY, CRAZY!

This one here I got when I asked Aleim Supreme (one of my elders and brown seed) by Screaming Jay Hawkins an artist who Aly had mentioned to me. Aleim said "that boy is crazy, check the side called Constipation Blues, talk about real pain". As I was watching it Allah B (another one of my elders and black seed) walked in and said "I saw him perform I put a spell on you at the APOLLO and people were passing out! That's one talented MO'FO'."

As my young brother Just C likes to put it HOT DAMN, and Peace Fam!
