Recently I was forwarded this article online that talks about the easy way to design. Although the "easy way to design" sometimes helps you get over a hump or a block when they do occur, but to be honest when it comes to good design there is no easy way around it. You can tell when a person is passionate about their work and when it basically becomes cookie cutter assembly line style. What leads me to this entry was that the "easy way" article described Marian Bantjes as a person who throws themselves into their work and is so detailed that it can burn you out and consume a lot of your time. Although that is true at times there is nothing to equal the gratification you get from undergoing such a laborious task. To look at her work and appreciate it to the point that I can see myself sitting there for hours working away lets me know that any artist that loves what they're doing wouldn't even think twice about it. Here are some samples I got from her site and for more just click here for Bantjes.Labels: Marian Bantjes, Typography
These books might seem a bit strange to some but to me they were a necessity. These were the first catalogs of fonts before desktop publishing was done on computers. I dug these up recently while going through my storage. Prestype was basically that, The pages were pretty large and everything was in layers literally. You had you background, your images, your type and then any branding needed. The type had to be rubbed onto a transparent sheet letter by letter in order to ensure proper spacing. This was a process that would take a lot of time and you truly had to be dedicated and focused in order to pull off a piece of perfection. Needless to say those times are waaaayyy behind us.

Recently Blust and I have been having some really good talks. Contemplating where society is going and how things are missing nowadays due to a "sterile environment". Regardless when it comes to art we both share the same appreciation towards it. We like to know there's a bit of grit in it to give it some character. Here's a couple of pieces he's done recently, one being for Vibe and the other is a piece for his boy.
